I spent most of my working life in NHS mental health settings, addiction services and secondary care.. I have worked with those who have a diagnosis of BPD, depression and trauma. If we think together about significant relationships and events and allow the therapeutic alliance to develop we can usually discover together the information you need in order to build resilient internal resources. I also work outdoors, using the natural world as a co-facilitator. This may sound a surprising suggestion but sometimes allowing the earth around us, the elements, the weather and the landscape to influence our thoughts can be profoundly helpful to us. The experience of thoughtfully connecting to the environment around us can spark memories and draw parallels in our imagination which in turn can reveal information we need, just when we most need it. Being outdoors can allow the mind to reconnect to a less complicated part, a less cluttered busy mind where feelings can be felt, where it is possible to watch the river flow but not believe you will drown in it.
